Viskit
Easy Learning with influencer’s know-how video.
Role Product Owner. All Product Design include UX, UI Design, Creative Design | Project Period 1 month
Overview
People can watch all the videos around the world on Youtube. We decided to focus on the part that YouTube users think is not convenient. Through user research, we decided to focused on video learning. And also considered how creators could generate revenue.
User Research
People were using YouTube for a variety of purposes, such as watching videos, listening to music, learning languages, or gaining know-how. Watching videos is the primary purpose of YouTube, and listening to music can be conveniently used via YouTube music. However, many users felt that it was inconvenient for studying or learning through YouTube.
In a user survey of users in their 20s and 30s who have learned through YouTube, 22% studied language, 21% viewed lectures. 30% wanted know-how of beauty, fashion, etc., 26% wanted know-how of personal development such as DIY, cooking, or musical instruments, etc. We focused on know-how videos in beauty, fashion, and personal development categories which were created by influencers.
What’s interesting is that many users who have watched the know-how videos have purchased products related to video creators. 73% purchased products used by influencers or YouTubers, 57% purchased products introduced by them, and 38% purchased products sold directly by them.
Creators Interview
Famous creators on YouTube or Instagram were highly interested in launching their own brands or selling things. In fact, in Korea, many influencers are curating and selling through their fame.
So we wanted users to easily acquire know-how in our products, while at the same time, the products used in the video could be easily purchased and creators could earn profit.
Background & Role
Several video projects started at the same time, then I proposed this easy know-how learning & shopping video app. After the proposal was accepted, we started work by design sprint, and I led the project especially user research, creative directing and everything related to product design. Our team consisted only of 2 product designers and a few engineers. We made a prototype in a short time of about a month.
Viskit
USER FLOW
The main page has three features : Explore, Home and Profile Page. Swipe to the left for Explore, swipe to the right for Profile. Users can upload videos from their profile page. The video is divided into chapters, so users can easily skip or repeat chapters in the video and buy the products in the video immediately.
Since we wanted users to use Viskit without any thinking about what to do, we took the simplest structure possible. When users enter Viskit, there are only two buttons, Search and Profile in the header, and a Category button at the bottom. Swipe left or right on the home to enter explore or profile, and scroll up and down to view videos.
Identity
Video + Skit
The name is a compound word of video and skit. "Skit" means a one-act play, which I thought fits our feature which is divided into chapters.
VHS Concept UI
We wanted influencers to come and get into action here, so I designed a unique style of UI to suit their tastes. The design concept was based on VHS & Old Television. Video thumbnails were Braun tubes as motifs, rounded squares, and glitch effects when scrolling or page switching, and tv color bar motif rainbow were used everywhere.
Screen
Explore
Users can browse new influencers on the Explore page and access various videos, such as trending and recommended videos. Users can also find information that they need through search. The search results are displayed in the order that is more related to keywords among people, series, and videos.
Player for Know-how Learning
Users can easily skip videos which are divided into chapters or repeat sections to memorize know-how.
Direct Shopping
Also Viewers can purchase the products used in the video right away.
Editor
Creators can simply shooting, split videos that have already been made and enter captions to fit on timeline.
Profile
The video can be upload from profile. The know-how videos are organized into series, so it is easy for the remains to gather, and the products used in the video can also be listed in profile.
Result
This project was not launched for the public. But the evaluation of the closed beta test was excellent. Two other projects started based on this, influencer and vlog editor. And Naver’s shopping services started providing video shopping. Although Viskit was never launched, the main features were included in three services. Viskit inspired other services to make either a new service or new function.
